Hi, I’m Charla Yearwood
(pronounced shar-luh) (she/her)
Throughout my life, I’ve spent a lot of time paying attention to people. I’ve always been curious about how people make meaning of their lives, the stories they carry, and how social rules shape the choices available to us. I’m drawn to work that makes space for reflection, curiosity and thoughtful engagement rather than quick conclusions.
Overtime, this orientation has facilitated a multifaceted career as I’m a therapist, teacher, trainer, writer, speaker, entrepreneur, and nonprofit leader. This site brings all of these threads together, on one page.
So, no matter what brought you here, I’m hoping you’re able to find an avenue for us to connect.
Therapy
I provide therapy for high functioning women who are outwardly capable, but internally overwhelmed. They are often juggling responsibilities, expectations, and roles while struggling to set boundaries, make clear decisions, or prioritize themselves without guilt.
Speaking & Workshops
I partner with organizations, universities, and professional groups for talks, workshops, and facilitated conversations. These spaces are designed to invite reflection, expand perspective, and support more thoughtful engagement with complex topics. My style is converational and grounded, with a focus on clarity, nuance, and accessibility rather than performance or persuasion.
Writing
Praxis is where I write and think publicly. Some pieces are exploratory, others practical, and many are somewhere in between. But everything I write is grounded in the practice of critical reflection and the belief that ideas matter most when they’re connected to the realities of lived experiences.
Continuing Education
Through Doin’ The Work, I create continuing education for social workers, therapists, and other helping professionals who want learning that feels relevant, honest, and grounded in practice. Course are on demand and provide continuing education credits for mental health professionals.
Entrepreneurship & Organizational Leadership
Connected in Community
Connected in Community is a health and wellness co-working space that I created for providers who want to practice autonomously without working in isolation. The space offers a professional, resourced environment that supports independent practice while fostering a sense of connection among providers.
The Center for Praxis
I founded the nonprofit, The Center for Praxis, in order to bridge the gap between theory and practice in mental health and social services. This organization supports clinicians, students, and interns in developing strong clinical skills while partnering with community organizations on program evaluation and service delivery.
