We Need to Get Healthier
We can’t fight back if we don’t believe we’re worth saving.
I hate feeling like I’m selling something.
“Let me share all the reasons why you should try therapy!”
Bruh. It’s healthcare.
I’m not trying to sell you scented candles or a morning routine. I’m talking about your health. Mental health is health. But somehow, convincing people to care for their minds feels like trying to sell air to someone who’s holding their breath.
And I get that therapy isn’t affordable. And yes, that’s true for some. But that’s not the only reason people aren’t getting help. Trust me, I’ve worked hard to find ways for people to access care for free and they don’t come. The problem is that everyone doesn’t recognize that they’re unhealthy. And how do you tell someone who’s going to work every day and checking the boxes on life that they still probably need mental health support without it sounding like an insult?
We are collectively unwell.
We all experienced a traumatic pandemic shutdown.
We are living with the constant threat of gun violence.
So many of us lack hope and avoid intimacy.
We are distracting ourselves with sports betting, vaping, and alcohol. With fast food and online shopping. With changing our aesthetics and hoping that maybe this new version of ourselves will make us feel better.
We’re doom scrolling, shit posting, and avoiding our friends.
We’re chasing degrees, new jobs, and side hustles - not out of passion, but because sitting still for too long hurts too much.
Life doesn’t have to be like this.
